If millions of people joined a strange, new community you knew nothing about and your own family was increasingly attracted to them, wouldn’t you want to know more?
I sure did. That’s why Context Beyond the Headlines recently broadcast a ground breaking look into Fan Culture Community. Here’s a video clip below revealing an online gaming community that was so strong, a concerned family took drastic intervention!
We also looked at the first Avatar baptism from a Virtual Reality church (Watch the video below) that I’ve ever seen, and it gives you much to think about on new way people are learning about God.

Can the creation of online characters give you a real experience with committing your life to Jesus?  It’s a brave new media world we dare not shrink back from.

No one could have predicted the fandom that grew around Game Of Thrones – a weekly series with a budget of over $13 million for each episode.  The show has attracted 31 million paying fans, and so Context unpacked why.  Watch our interview with a Christian professor on why Game of Thrones has thrown out all the rules on good versus evil – and why it has resonated like it has.

And here is the bottom line of why we need Context to address topics like we did on fandom:

1) Context helps you discover truth. In this episode on fan cultures affecting your family, Christian thought is a highly needed resource.

2) A relationship with God gives people a life-giving perspective to sort out what is life building for our families and what is not.

3) Nowhere else in media can public consumption on media trends be challenged with a winsome approach giving people a biblical perspective. Our interviews on fandom were just one collection of over 30 shows we covered with a passion for a biblical view to reach media consumers.
Thousands of reposts and shares of our content, challenging speaking engagement invitations in secular forums, and eager counter attacks from opponents is all feedback telling us our audience is engaged!
I don’t often send emails like this. Why am I writing?

Thousands of reposts and shares of our content, challenging speaking engagement invitations in secular forums, and eager counter attacks from opponents is all feedback telling us our audience is engaged!

I don’t often send emails like this. Why am I writing?

Because I need your help as we come to the end of our broadcast year on August 31.

I believe you agree with me that there’s a critical need to protect and grow the jewel of Christian teaching and thought that shines strong in Context. We are a welcoming place for people to explore their spiritual questions about what they see in mainstream media.

Context just finished its 15th season of crafting boundary breaking media that reveals Christ. Even though our on-air audience jumped 15% this year to 335,000 every week, we’re digging in to grow stronger than ever. As we look to a new season come September, I need your help now to finish funding for Season 15.

Unlike other media outlets we don’t receive a cent in government funding. We’re 100% donor funded. Of our modest $1.43 million seasonal budget, We’ve raised almost $900,000 to date. Which means I’ve got just a few more months to raise the remaining $535,000.

If you can’t afford to give then consider the show our gift to you and please keep watching. If you can afford to give – whatever the amount – small or large – I invite you to make your SEASON 15 tax-receiptable donation now.

Please be part of the conversation and help me bring hope and healing to this world. Feel free to give me a call if you’d like to discuss your gift or have comments. Thank you.
