Grenada
On September 7th 2004, Hurricane Ivan hit the Island of Grenada
full force as the eye of the storm passed directly over it. In its
wake, it left an almost unimaginable path of destruction not seen
in the last 50 years. With a population of approximately 90,000,
every home and building sustained damage to varying degrees.
It has been reported that only 1% of power lines are working and
it could take up to twelve months before it is restored. Their main
economies of Tourism and Agriculture (spices) have been devastated
with 85% of the farming resources destroyed. Grenada, the second
largest producer/exporter of Nutmeg, asserts it could take up to
20 years before it once again returns to peak production. The fishing
industry has also been severely affected with overturned and damaged
boats. It could still be months before schools are repaired and
reopened.

Grenada Emergency Response Teams Return
David Mainse, the founder and former host
of "100 Huntley Street" led the first
of three missions emergency response teams that have
helped to rebuild Grenada following the Caribbean Crisis.
These teams were able to help cleanup and repair the
homes of Jean Palmer, Gideon Gibson and over 100 other
families. The teams were blessed to be there and they
encourage others to join upcoming Crossroads Missions
work teams.

Haiti
The death toll as a result of Tropical Storm Jeanne is over 2000.
The northern town of Gonaives was totally flooded and has been described
as catastrophic. Crossroads is reaching out to support the men,
women and children whose lives have been shattered by the destruction
of Jeanne.
Prior to the flood, and all the more now, contaminated water has
been a main concern. Five hundred bio-sand filters are being put
in place as well as deworming medicine is being distributed. The
work team will be involved in rebuilding two churches, an orphanage
and other projects that are underway.
