Please Pray for the Canada Summer Jobs Motion in Parliament Monday

 by Crossroads

Friends of Crossroads,

It is with a sense of urgency that I am reaching out to you today for prayer about a parliamentary motion on Canada Summer Jobs, scheduled for Monday, March 19th.   I am asking you to join me, and the many individuals, Christian organizations and churches, who will participate in a day of fasting and prayer this Sunday, March 18th to humbly ask God to intervene as MPs vote on this encouraging motion from the Official Opposition:

That, in the opinion of the House, organizations that engage in non-political non-activist work, such as feeding the homeless, helping refugees, and giving kids an opportunity to go to camp, should be able to access Canada Summer Jobs funding regardless of their private convictions and regardless of whether or not they choose to sign the application attestation.

Crossroads application to Canada Summer Jobs was rejected this year. At the recommendation of the Canadian Council of Christian Charities (CCCC), we submitted our application with an explanation why we could not agree to the statements about reproductive rights found in the attestation.  We firmly believe that our work in media and the opportunity to give valuable workplace experience to summer students through Canada Summer Jobs should not be denied because of our beliefs about abortion.

Would you please join me in praying for these items (as suggested by the CCCC):

  • Pray for the government, which is currently requiring Christian charities—including churches—to agree with statements related to sexuality and abortion in order to receive funding from government;
  • Pray for the MPs who will vote on this important motion on Monday, March 19, 2018;
  • Pray for Christian charities, including churches, facing the requirement to potentially change their position on matters of conscience to receive funding to serve people; and
  • Pray for students relying on these positions in the Canada Summer Jobs program for work, who may now be without a job this summer.

Thank you for participating in this nationwide call to prayer on Sunday, March 18th and supporting Crossroads as we use our media voice in Canada to bring attention to this vote. Please pray that Canadians will be open and free to express their Christian faith convictions without discrimination.

Thank you for standing with us,

Lorna Dueck,
